So today we have been gone from Cedarville for over a month, Maeve turns 4 months (not sure how that is happening already!), and we are headed home next week. When Wade and I started talking about taking this trip we wondered if we were crazy. Could we really live on the road with our three kids for 5 weeks? When we get back home we will have been through 15 states. That is crazy! Now that we are into the trip I am so glad we decided to just go for it! We have for sure had our share of “AHHHH” moments. We have had diaper blowouts in the car, kids kicking and screaming, Mom and Dad as tired of being in the car as the little ones, and a flu virus that took us out for a few days. But these moments have been overshadowed by the enormous about of fun that we have had!
One big take away from this trip is that WE NO LONGER FEAR THE 18 HOUR DIRECT FLIGHT TO SOUTH AFRICA!!!! This is actually huge because that has seem pretty daunting for the last few months.
Seeing family and good friends has lifted our sprits and has made us increasingly thankful for the community that the Lord has provided in our life. We have seen people that we don’t often get to see but that we have the joy of picking up where we left off and sharing the moments together. We have met so many new friends and had some wonderful meetings with churches.
So many details went into this trip and COULD NOT have worked without the Lord working through people to provide. Things like:
- A minivan that has been AMAZING!!
- Friends and family who have opened their home for us to stay.
- People helping us get connected in whatever city we stayed in.
- We have sent out SOS prayer emails and have had prayer warriors praying for us the entire time.
- People have sent encouraging notes, emails, and messages.
- And so many more things!
I got a encouraging text from a friend a few days ago. She said “I know you are anxious to be in South Africa but your ministry is here now, being Jesus to those you are with on your trip”. Perfect reminder for this ministry we have been called to currently. Whatever we do we do all to the glory of God and that His name would be proclaimed! So we will continue to road trip with JOY.
Just a few snap shots so far:
